History of Thriller Films

Thriller, a type of genre for films that usually incorporates suspense and tension towards the audience. The story often includes the protagonist of the story fighting, fleeing, defending themselves or the opposite from the antagonist (villain). 

An example of this, you may have an ordinary boy who is targeted by a serial killer who is on the loose, and the boy must fight for his survival, or you may have an average police officer who must chase down and find a mass murderer who has escaped and is planning to kill thousands of people. In this the protagonist is portrayed as weak because the boy will be very unlikely to defend himself against the serial killer.

There are a variety of thrillers involving sub-genres such as crime, action adventure, detective story etc. Thriller was very different many years ago compared to now, whereas technology is very advanced and high tech. Classic Thrillers relied very much on music as shown in the trailer Psycho in which has very sharp string noises making the audience jumpy and creating tension. If you were to watch this trailer without the soundtrack the audience would feel less suspense and tension, this is because the music changes the mood and atmosphere of the film.
